When he was 17 he decided to study acting in New York and by the time he was 19 he was working with acting coach William Esper. While working as an extra for the movie "Black and White" in 1999, Ian was spotted by a talent agent and signed immediately. One year later Ian became a regular on the television show "Young Americans" and landed small parts in some movies and tv shows. In 2004 he landed the most important role of his career, when he was cast as Boone Carlyle on the hit show "Lost". After his character was killed off, Ian could be seen in some movies or as a guest star on several television shows. Ian currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia where "The Vampire Diaries" is being filmed.
